Little League Divisions

Overview & Recommended Ages

1. Tee Ball

Recommended Ages: 4-6 years

Description: Tee Ball is the introductory level of Little League, focusing on teaching young children the basic skills of baseball and softball, including hitting off a stationary tee, fielding, and running the bases. This division prioritizes fun, teamwork, and skill development.

2. Rookies (Coach/Machine Pitch)

Recommended Ages: 6-8 years

Description: The Rookies division introduces children to hitting pitches from a coach or a pitching machine. This level helps players develop batting, fielding, and throwing skills while becoming familiar with game rules in a supportive, learning-focused environment.

3. Minors (Player Pitch)

Recommended Ages: 8-10 years

Description: The Minors division is the first level where players pitch to each other. It emphasizes skill-building, sportsmanship, and learning game strategies. Players experience more structured play and are introduced to competitive elements in a controlled manner.

4. Majors

Recommended Ages: 10-12 years

Description: The Majors division is the highest level for most local Little League programs and features more competitive play. Players further develop their skills, learn advanced strategies, and participate in games that may lead to tournament opportunities, including eligibility for the Little League World Series.

5. Intermediate (50/70 - Pitching Mound/Bases)

Recommended Ages: 11-13 years

Description: The Intermediate 50/70 division introduces players to an extended playing field with a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths. This division bridges the gap between the Majors and Juniors, allowing players to adjust to larger field dimensions while developing new strategies like leading off bases.

6. Juniors

Recommended Ages: 12-14 years

Description: The Juniors division features a full-sized baseball field (60-foot pitching distance and 90-foot base paths) and more advanced gameplay. This level prepares players for high school baseball by emphasizing competition, skill refinement, and higher-level game mechanics.

7. Softball (Tee/Coach Pitch)

Recommended Ages: 4-7 years

Description: This softball division is tailored for younger girls to learn the basics of hitting, fielding, and running bases in a fun and supportive environment. Coaches or tees are used to ensure that players can develop at their own pace.

8. Softball (Hybrid/Kid Pitch)

Recommended Ages: 8-10 years

Description: This division blends coach pitch and kid pitch to help players transition to more competitive play. Coaches may start pitching to the players, with kids gradually taking over as they gain confidence and skill. This format focuses on improving batting, pitching, and field awareness.
